3D Ripper DX with a Virtual Machine
I'll cover two Virtual Machine's briefly. Remember that no matter which on you use it should be 32 bit for 3D Ripper compatibility.
-VMWare (paid)
As far as compatibility with 3D Ripper DX and Dolphin goes, VMWare is better for extracting (though VirtualMachine is better for playing, but it's a bit more complicated than just that)
VMWare:
To use VMWare with 3D Ripper DX and a VM, just install them and use them (it seems to just work by default as far as I've experienced)
VirtualBox:
To use VirtualBox, install it and all its peripherals except the guest additions iso.
Install other stuff now like Dolphin 3.5, 3D Ripper DX 1.8.2, DirectX runtimes, etc
Then get the guest additions iso (previous and current versions can be obtained here http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/; get a version newer than 5.0, I've tested with 5.0.24 and 5.1.12) and while your vm is open, go to 'Devices > Optical Drive > Choose disk image..' and find your iso.
You then want to click on the X in the top right and close the virtual machine by powering it off ('Power off the machine'), this is equivalent to holding down the physical power button on your computer, and will cause Windows to ask if you want to safe boot on next bootup
Boot into safe mode
Then go to 'Start > Computer' and double click your disk drive (it'll probably go into the files rather than launching automatically), if that's the case just open the executable 'VBoxWindowsAdditions'
Press Next until you get to the 'Choose Components' screen
Tick the box 'Direct 3D Support (Experimental)'
You should get a Yes/No dialogue asking whether you would like to install basic Direct3D support instead. THIS OPTION IS PIVOTAL DEPENDING ON WHAT YOU WANT.
If you want to run games smoothly and get to points for ripping, then select Yes
If you want to rip with 3D Ripper DX choose No, but BE AWARE - Dolphin will run at next to 0 frames with this enabled
The only viable way to rip with VirtualBox is use a combination of the two:
Using the Yes option, get to the part where you want to rip something and press Shift+F# (F# is one of the F# keys at the top of your keyboard like F1, F2, F3, etc; these are save states in Dolphin).
Then power off the virtual machine and go through the Direct3D install again, but this time selecting No, then going back to play to the normal state again and press the F# key to reload the last state; then press the F# key to rip with 3D Ripper DX
Depending on the option you select, a different graphics adaptor is installed. Unfortunately this is the only workaround I've found other than using VMWare. Alternatively one could theoretically use VirtualBox as the base Virtual Machine then run VMWare inside of it, though this would likely present issues.
Now questions:
What happens if I rip while using the Yes VirtualBox option?
It will rip, but you end up with only a jumbled mess of vertices all converging at the center, with nothing even remotely resembling what you've ripped. It's more an explosion of vertices and edges than anything.
